Recess. Finally. It was the only good part of the day..
Who wanted to sit down and learn about boring stuff anyways? All it ever was, was talking talking and talking, the adults talking. And somehow, he was expected to pick up all the information of wars and past and present relations and what was expected of him. Alfred was a little disappointed; there was another younger nation or two he was told to stay away from, but they seemed pretty nice, or there was even some he was expected to be great friends with right off the bat, but.. he didn't like them. (The younger Japan for example was too quiet for the mini-nation's taste, even if he did have cool stuff to play with, and his brother was.. where was he anyways?)
Any memory of the other chibi was lost as America stepped out into the playground. It was a fairy sunny day, but even combined with the other younger nations running around and yelling with their new-found freedom, Alfred just quietly walked over to one of the swings and sat down, kicking at the sand. 'I don't even really know anyone,' he thought nervously, 'I mean, what if I don't make any friends?' To be honest he was in awe when he saw his older counterpart chatting away with others, unafraid of saying or doing anything, being extremely social.. Was that really even him, older? The thought seemed impossible.
After a moment, he debated going back inside and waiting for recess to end, but instead he looked up in surprise as he heard the sand of the swing-sets shifting with someone walking nearby.

Little Lovino couldn't hardly wait to run outside, once he heard the recess bell ring, strike. He was nearly bored to death in the classrooms and honestly, he was getting pretty sick and tired of all these weird lessons that they were teaching in the classes here at the school. It was pretty much basically all about wars, and different countries, and how to become a better one for the future. And in his fair opinion you could simply think to himself, 'Why the hell should I care?' I mean who's interested in hearing about wars, and old histories, and not to mention other countries' weird cultures. It make any child want to just go right down and fall asleep, and especially since it being Lovino, it annoyed him even more that he was forced to sit down clammed up in a classroom for a couple hours and learn worthless stuff like that. Maybe if it was a cute girl like that girl Belgium who was teaching yesterday, he would of probably have learned more; but in the opposite it was just another freak, that he didn't care about knowing his name. It was so embarrassing for Lovino to go to these classes. Especially when his last class was art class... One he hated the most.
He huffed to himself quietly as he scampered outside the doors.
But anyway, he shouldn't be thinking to hardly about those things, because it was annoying him even more. As much as he loved being so close to these loud damn bastards outside, it was way better then being in a crowded classroom of plain tediousness. Lovino stopped in his tracks then scanned the playground.
Although, now that he thought of it... He knew no one here. He had only known his younger brother, who was probably scampering around already making new friends before him. Lovino already acknowledged that he wasn't much of a 'friendly' person to began with, but as much as he didn't want to admit, he didn't want to be the only kid without a friend; it'd be embarrassing for him for him to be alone on every recess, so he continued to scan the room. He didn't want to go in a whole group of people, that would have been to much trouble for him, and wanted to start somewhere, where he didn't get much attention, first off. He stopped. And when he saw the boy on the swings he couldn't possibly want the resist the chance on this opportunity. The boy looked lonely, like him, and was looking down sad, and even though Lovino wouldn't even say it to himself, he felt bad. And right now, that could have been a good excuse on what he was about to do next.
Quickly after gazing for a a bit, he scurried over to the swing sets, and went to the one beside him in discomfort (the swings were high dammit!) grasping hardly onto the chains, simply staring at the other boy with puffed cheeks and nervous eyes onto the others; thinking hopefully the other knew, why he was there.
(I have approval of... myself. )

Surprised, the older mini-nation could do nothing but stare blankly back at the other, who suddenly appeared in the neighboring swing. Alfred quietly grasped the chains, shifting nervously as he returned the other's gaze, slightly confused. While he could almost understand what he was saying without saying it, the brunette's expression threw him off a little. Were they.. pouting? Did he do something wrong? No, that couldn't be it. (Right?) The blond simply sat there for a moment, a mixture of shyness and uncertainty keeping him from saying anything for a while until finally.. "H-hey.." Not the confident greeting the boy was hoping for, but it was better than nothing.
He looked at the other quietly before offering a slight smile, a faint flush appearing on his cheeks; he felt kind of embarrassed not being able to come up with a full sentence. 'Why can't they teach how to make friends at school instead of boring stuff like wars?' he sighed mentally, glancing back down at the sand. The sounds of others the other chibi nations running about, interacting, and just having fun were easy to hear from the swing-set. America silently brought his gaze to the other kids. How come they didn't seem to be having this much trouble?
He blinked. Well, there was a few exceptions, like a silvery-headed younger nation just walking around with a bird.. thing. The site of the other finally pushed Alfred to try and break through the silence; he didn't want to end up walking around the playground like that. (Because what WAS that? Some freaky chicken? It scared him a little..) A slight look of determination on his face, the American turned back to the other, nervously smiling once more. "Uhm, I'm Alfred!" Wait. What was he told to introduce himself as? Oh. Right. "Uhm.. or the United States of America." He kicked himself from the ground slightly, just barely swinging as he looked at the brunette curiously. He didn't want to scare him off by talking too much, so he just offered simple question. "Who're you?"

The small Italian simply continued his silent stare for a while, as the other spoke. The other-- well, Alfred, didn't seem much of a threat to Lovino, and his shy composition, gave it that, he wasn't going to be someone mean either. His stare pacefully faded away, as he composed himself into a better position, glancing down at the sand as well (with his pouting rising more since he was frustrated/nervous about the swing's height) then swiftly right back to the other's face.
So since the other didn't intimidate him, maybe only this time would he not act coldly towards the other. He seemed annoying, but it wasn't enough where it could make Lovino feel the oblivious aurora of it, so he didn't mind. So before the other child could comment about his long gaze, Lovino quickly flushed in realization, before quickly starting a short add saying,"C-...Ciao, dammit." To make sure he wouldn't have made a complete fool of himself, for staring too long. Now, Lovino wasn't that timid unlike the other one that was beside him.
And less to say, he could be pretty out-going; or maybe you can say reckless--but it seemed in this weird occasion, he actually felt nervous being right beside Alfred. Probably because he was slightly worried on if he would become his friend or not, but if he didn't then he's just a damn bastard like the rest of them. But maybe if Lovino tried to seem more amicable, maybe he could obtain Alfred as a friend.
And who knows, just by looking at the small American he could tell that he looked like the type that isn't that bossy, and knowing Lovino he was. So maybe at the end he could end up with a older lackey too. "United States of America? I-I know where that is. I heard about it in class once." Which was a lie. Lovino didn't even know where the hell his country was, and neverless would you say he actually payed attention. "I'm Lovino. Also known as the Southern Italy, or whatever." He didn't really care about where he was from, but if he didn't remember it, he would of probably of gotten a good lecture from one of the teachers.
The boy nearly twitched as he heard the yelling of the others in the courtyard. He was tempted to turn around and yell loudly at them, but that would probably have been rude. Oh hell with it, like he cared of it was rude, but he was talking to the other and surprisingly he cared more about that, then the annoying jackasses in the background, so he decided to simply murmur a couple curse words, before asking the American the next question.
"Why aren't you with everyone else?"

Southern Italy? Why not just all of Italy? While he was a bit shy to ask, the young nation couldn't help but wonder why it was that the other boy stood for only half of a country; after all, he himself was the United States of America, all of it. He didn't quite notice how long the other child had been looking at him, on the account that he was staring little too. "Ciao? Is that like hi?" Of course the blond was still nervous of chasing off his potential-friend, but he also tried to remember seeing his older self, how easily he just talked and got along with everyone.. He couldn't just sit there in silence for that long. After the other finished speaking, Alfred simply nodded, letting himself think for a bit before fully answering.
On the inside the small nation was about ready to blurt out something random in nervousness, and it was a little obvious. Fidgeting, for one, and that annoying flush over his cheeks from embarrassment had yet to go away. And while Alfred knew a handshake was how the adults started off a conversation, the American's grip was still on the steel chains of the swing. He kicked his feet slightly in the sand and looked down again unable to hold the South Italian's gaze for very long.
"O-Oh? Yeah. It's a big country.." 'And I'm so small!' Alfred smiled slightly down at the ground. "Uhm, but how come you're only half of a country?" Finally the blond looked up, turning back to the other chibi nation curiously. Lovino? He'd give him a proper nickname later, but for now Lovi would do. "I mean.. I-is there a.." What was the word.. "A north Italy?" Like what was stated earlier, the idea of one nation having two people for it seemed strange. 'Ohh.. Does that mean all of the place has FOUR people?!' Even though he had no idea where Italy was (except that it wasn't in America), he wondered what was so special about it.
Lovino's question though, had stopped Alfred's slow climb of confidence. His smile faded somewhat, and that same stupid flush was back. "I-I don't know.." He briefly pondered for a moment before shrugging quielty. "I guess.. uhm.. Everyone's kinda loud, and I dunno them.." Don't get the wrong impression: Alfred F. Jones, chibi or not, was a chatterbox. The only difference between the two was that his younger self actually had to get used to someone before talking so much. The other boy however, seemed like he would be a good friend. (He came over after all, and didn't seem like a bully.) Tilting his head slightly to one side, he looked back at the Italian with the same thoughtful expression as before.
"What about you? I mean, ya don't seem mean or anything.. I figured you'd have some friends with you.."

The Italian blinked momentarily in realization. He didn't notice at all he spoke Italian, in till the other one mentioned it. "U-Uh... mmm.. C-Ciao means 'hi' in your stupid language. Doesn't America know all the languages or something?" He huffed for a minute before finishing to regain some 'pride' attempting to show off towards the other. "Not like I don't know all of them either, though." It was actually kind of frustrating to let the child realize he spoke in his home language. I mean it wasn't like he didn't hear it from his older counterpart-- actually, he heard a lot of Italian from him; and also a lot of Italian words he shouldn't have heard. But for some reason he also said tons of other words he hadn't even learned in Italian yet, and for some reason, it came natural to him. And it was pretty weird, and he was baffled so much thinking how he knew much about his heritage already. Maybe people are just born with that skill, or maybe he's just that cool to remember things like that.
But, either way, the more he thought about it, the more he started to give less a damn, and hell, he had a friend to make, so he didn't have to think anymore about it anyway. He continued to glance about on Alfred's features as he began to start to speak again. Lovino let out another huff, raising an eyebrow, taking another flush on his face, as he noticed the others. 'W-Why the hell is he acting so weird...? I-I'm not doing anything wrong... D-Dammit...' His lips began to pout silently still staring at the other, deep in his own thoughts. As Lovino would hate to admit, he was also nervous on talking to the other too. Though he rejected to believe it, you could easily tell, with his face still flustering and even repeating the other's movements from before. Wondering to himself why he was acting so stupid for a moment, he simply shook away the thought and finally let out a reply after the other one spoke.
"Yeah. But my older self told me there's a bunch of annoying jackasses in that country... Is that right?" Obviously Lovino couldn't tell if he was one yet, with Alfred's rather blatant attitude. Of course right now Little Alfred, seemed alright in his eyes, (at least he wasn't annoying like the other ones) but if it was about the older Alfred...Well that was another story. Either way, both of their voices were irritating as hell, but Lovino could barely tell, as hearing the other background voices.
"Oh, I think I had a younger brother named that. I don't really care about him though, dammit... H-He takes too much attention..." Grasping the chains on the swings wiggling it, he huffed more looking down. Whenever he spoke about his fratello, he got irritated a lot. Always taking all the attention, leaving Lovino alone by himself. It kind of made Lovino sad a little, but like he'd admit that to anyone, so he tried to go back speaking louder after his mumbles.
"Y-Your right! That's why i'm not talking to them either. Those damn bastards are hurting my ears!" Which was probably only half of the reason why the Italian didn't talk to everyone else. Normally he could shown to be vaguely shy, and/if someone tried to come up to him, he'd usually shun them away with his attitude and profanity. It was even odd he wasn't cursing onto the other right now, (even though he did a little), but Lovino was kind of actually shocked at the moment the other did walk away like the rest of them. Blinking for a second his head sprawled up at the other, flushing, with his pouting attitude again.
"O-Of course i'm not mean, dammit! I-It's just that..." He wavered his shoe on the sand looking down for a moment in thought, then back at the other. "I-It's just that i'm just too cool for everyone here!"

“Stupid? My language isn’t stupid!” the boy quickly defended, although, he’d already heard it often enough that what he spoke was just a rip-off of some other kid’s. At the mentioning of knowing all languages, Alfred looked down again. Was he supposed to? Sure, since his country was made up of all sorts of immigrants and cultures, one would think he knew, right? Well being a sort of reincarnate of his older self, the older American hadn’t really bothered to learn the languages he could have, so therefore his younger self didn’t know anything past basic Spanish and ‘bonjour‘. (Bordering Mexico after all, and that one guy being up north.) “U-uhm.. No. I can say hola though?” He glanced up again, only to be caught off guard by another question.
“Wh-what..?” Okay, so where was this coming from? The American stopped himself from responding with any hurt tone, since obviously, he was a bit of the sensitive type. ‘And he said it was his older self that said it so..’ Yeah, that was it. The Lovino sitting in the swing didn’t say the mean stuff, it was just his older self. “Nu uh! At least, I dun’t think so.. Everyone seems super nice and stuff.” Truthfully, he wasn’t even sure what the work jackass meant, but it didn’t sound positive. “Your older self seems kinda mean..”
Wait, brother? Alfred paused, looking out across the playground for a familiar face. Didn’t he have a brother, or something? After a while though, the American discovered that he couldn’t spot the person, and decided it was a figment of his imagination, quickly turning back to the Italian. “I think I had a brother.. But.. I don’t see him, so.. Maybe it didn‘t hear right..” Aside from the earlier comment, Alfred was quickly getting used to the other, not fidgeting quite as much and able to keep eye contact with the other more. (Even though he had to keep looking to the side) He was amiable of course, but the boy’s only problem seemed to be getting over that first hill of awkwardness.
Alfred smiled at the other’s comment, finally offering his hand in a handshake. He was still nervous of course, only less so, as he finally saw the prospect of the Italian becoming a friend. “Oh. Well.. W-we could be friends? I mean. If you want..” He flushed slightly, secretly dreading the idea of the other scoffing and walking away at the offer. “I mean.. I don’t h-have any friends so.. And you seem nice!”
(It took me three days to write this 8| I don‘t even.. )

Lovino gave a simply roll of his eyes placing one of his hands on his hips, still on the swing. Puffing his cheeks he silently waited for the other's 'defending' to tone back down, before replying. The Italian couldn't really speak out and debate about his language most likely only to the fact, because he didn't know much about the American language. He mentally scowled to himself. Damn. He couldn't fight back at the response and just ended up huffing to himself replying, "W-Whatever... D-Dammit...It sounds stupid too me though! Why can't everyone just learn Italian? I-It's easier..." Not much of a clever reply, but whatever chance Lovino got to talk back he would take it, and after hearing Alfred's next reply, the Italian nearly twitched and was ready to give another 'smart' response once more.
You see, for some reason, hearing Spanish, learning Spanish-- and not to mention that Spanish bastard who hung around his older self, nearly pissed him off to the death of him. No reason why, but it just repelled him in a strange way. He also despised it for another reason, because he was also weirdly also luring to him in a way, too. It pissed him off, alot. "And what's so important about that language either, dammit?" He retorted swiftly with a pout. "Spanish is just harder then English! H-Hmph!" Not to mention about a couple mentors one tomato bastard tried to teach him, nearly made Lovino's mind hard to comprehend, but the rules of running the hell away from certain people such as him from his older counterpart, made him relax.
"A-And I already told you." Lovino went back to his 'calm' tone again, scooting back on the swings quietly going back to listen to the other's response, expecting not for a repeat. "Well that's not what he said, dammit. B-But he also said some are really s-scary too and you don't like the type..." Of course Lovino knew that the ones who looked scary were mean, but examining Alfred it was hard to tell. Already retorting back at him, he had a small feeling of it, but clearly in Lovino's point of perspective, Alfred's stupidity blocked away from his fear. He could already the other child was more emotional then him, but he couldn't really give a damn if he hurt his feelings. Lovino gave a short gulp. "And nuh uh! My older self is cool, dammit! H-He's just like me! I bet he's cooler then yours t-too!" Of course he didn't care about the other's feelings. Why the hell would he? I mean even though he was still appalled to the fact the other hasn't left bawling his eyes running away from him like a couple others...But that never meant he should deserve special treatment from him. Like he said he was just to cool for everyone else, here. 'They...They were just jealous!'
After another few moments of calming himself down, trying to hide the flush he was showing toward the other (most likely because of his timid thoughts he was thinking a few seconds ago) regaining his position once again with still his normal expression, as the other talked again. "W-Well, I wish I was a only child, dammit. I h-hate my stupid little brother...H-He's just annoying!" Unexpected it was obvious to anyone Lovino was lying. Of course he loves his little fratello to death but hey, you know how kids are.
Wincing at the handshake, Lovino swiftly sprawled up to back away from it out of surprise, but then blinked in realization. Can't help but flushing he stared at the other in awe for a few moments. 'Is he...Is he really a-asking me to be his amico?' Lovino would never admit it, but he was actually content that the other gave him the offer. It'd be one of his first friends in the school. And hopefully one of his bests. 'W-Well... Y-Yeah, of course he'd ask me! I'm just so cool like that...! B-But... He called me nice, too... N-No one calls me nice... His face darkening in red even more at the compliment, he stared more at the other. Being ignorant as he was he simply crossed his arms rejected the handshake, huffing replying back with a small stutter, "F-Fine.. W-Wh...Whatever, dammit! Y-Y...You better be grateful!" A rough reply for the other's end, but shocking enough if you knew how Lovino was, pfft. Your just a lucky ass getting him to accept you.
(It's fine! At least you replied back, da?~<3)

Clearly, giving the other the benefit of the doubt wasn't turning out so well.
The American frowned again, positive that his language wasn't stupid at all. It wasn't that he wanted to get upset over such a thing, but he felt the need to defend everything about the nation he was. (What did Iggy say his older self was.. over-patriotic? Something like that, who knows.) Alfred only blinked, turning his gaze back at the sand to avoid saying something in return while the other chibi nation continued on. Ah. Okay. So he hadn't impressed him by speaking in another language after all, in fact it almost made things worse. 'B-but.. at least he said that Spanish was harder than English?' Yeah, see? The other boy had just complimented his language.. kinda. As Alfred tried desperately to keep his opinion about the Italian a positive one, it seems his thoughts were reinforced.
"O-oh? Well, 'cause I'm not scary." He glanced back up at Lovino, looking at him curiously for saying such a thing. Him? Scary? He would never want to admit it, but the blond was more apt to be scared than to be the one doing the scaring. "I don't even think I've scared anyone before!" Just as he was about to say something else, the brunette had something else to say.
Now, if he wasn't so young and used to such responses and remarks like his older self, he wouldn't have been phased by the Italian's snappiness; unfortunately, he was this young, and with the added bonus of being quite a little sensitive. "Nn.. Okay.." Of course Alfred didn't think the other's counterpart was cooler than his, in fact, he was starting to think of him as a bit of a jerk, but he didn't want to end up arguing, and instead felt a bit of a sinking feeling when the other boy told him how similar they were. In truth, this wasn't going as well as he hoped; why was he snapping at him? Maybe the American was saying stupid stuff but didn't realize?
Alfred sighed quietly, trying to think of something to say that wouldn't set off the other. "I dunno.. It would be cool to have a little brother, or maybe even an older one.." Not realizing he already had one of course. And that was that. He decided not to press on the subject.
Wait. He just.. rejected his handshake? The chibi nation stared at the other, surprised. Immediately he started to panic, wondering what he did wrong and why the other didn't want to be his friend. 'W-wait! Alfred never said what to do if-!' What.. So he rejected the handshake, but still said 'fine' to being his friend? Alfred quickly wiped his eyes, embarrassed he was reacting such a way when the other had said yes to his offer. "O-okay.." But still, why wasn't he as happy as he expected he would be? 'Probably just nervous?' The American turned his gaze to the ground, kicking at the sand quietly, not knowing what else to say. 'Huh, what now?' He sat in silence before coming up with an idea, one that couldn't possibly be taken badly. "Oh! How about we get some snacks?"
